I always get flack on the show when I say Gamespot and IGN say it is silent but Engadget recently said it as well. They are usually pretty reliable about this sort of thing. They also say that it is cool to the touch.

Yeah, I've heard the same.

Always? I only remember disputing this once...mostly because I was trying to irritate.
And good job for Sony, now let's see if I can fit it into the same space my PS2 occupies.

that's good, though honestly, the noise of ANY console pales in comparison to Dell computers, so i never really notice it.

You kind of get used to the noise of the 360 after a while. It is annoying after youve played a demo (which makes no noise) for hours and then jump right in to playing a game off a disc.

Sounds a lot like my V10 PS2. Hardly makes a sound, and when you take a disc out even after playing it for hours, it's still cool to the touch. During the summer I'm pretty sure it actually makes the discs colder.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 and games stay cool due to the gigantic ventilation fan in the console. Then again, the people who got to play it so far have stripped versions of the console. I really don't care how warm or cool it is though (as long as it doesn't burn my flesh off, which can go either way with hot or cold, but if you ask me, a frostburn hurts a hell of a lot more), I only care that it can continue playing without crashing.
Also, I don't even notice the noise consoles make either. They're all pretty silent and unnoticeable anyway.

Noise does not bother me at all. I have a volume knob, and I'll use it if needed. I still don't notice the 360 at all. I'm just not that picky. As long as the game is awesome and its running good without crashing, who gives a shit if the console is loud?

Well, there IS a limit to how loud a console should be.

My 360 sounded like a leaf blower (when it still worked).
Hopefully the new one I get will be quieter.

Seems like people are mixed. Some hate the loudness, others don't even see it as an issue at all. I guess it all depends on the person.
I prefer my machines to be quiet. It makes those silent moments in video games have more emotion.

It's never bothered me. On the other hand, I'm used to having fans on my computer that are quite loud, so I never even noticed the 360's volume until you guys pointed it out.

Exactly.
I LOVE when a console/computer is quiet. It lets me enjoy the games more.

Well, if it bothers you that much, just stick your 360 in the closet and let the wires through under the door. It should be quiter in another room.

Why is it so wrong that we like our consoles quiet?
Everyone has their tastes. If we all played and loved the same stuff, it would be kinda boring.
