Ps3 Silence again reported
See, if I am uninterested in something I just don't talk about it. Know what I say when people around me talk about football? Nothing, because it doesn't interest me.
Yet many people who feign disinterest take every opportunity to tell everyone how the PS3 is over-priced, has no good games, and breaks down if not aligned correctly with jupiter.
Cases such as this I would count as ire.
This is not meant to start a flame war, this is just something that annoys me.

Personally, I have stayed out of the whole discussion, for the most part. If you'll examine my post record, you'll see I have around 10 recent posts (past two months) discussing the PS3. I would not consider that to be "taking every opportunity". More often than not, I do stay out, because of the disinterest.Verence wrote:See, if I am uninterested in something I just don't talk about it. It's been obsessively bashing an trivial matter in a console that you never notice unless you're TRYING to pay attention to it. Seriously, I have never noticed the fan in ANY electronic device aside from when I listen to make sure it isn't making noises it shouldn't (usually at startup). Personally, it'll probably be harder to do that with the PS3, though not impossible considering that it is physically impossible at this moment to keep anything that uses a fan 100% quiet.
Like I said before though, arguing over the sound a console makes is kind of ridiculous and pointless, especially when you exaggerate the sound.
P.S. Verence, please don't change what I really said to suit your argument. If you're going to argue, use what I said, not what you wanted me to say.

I'm not pointing any fingers, Richie.
EDIT: I'm going the way of Break in this matter. I had a bunch of stuff typed up, but I decided to give up.
I thought I'd been quite reasonable, but whatever...
I will say this though (since it is seperate from the subject of the PS3), my 360 is loud. The four I had before this one were loud too. When I play my PS2 I only have to turn my TV's volume up to 12 (from 8, where it usually is). When I play 360 I have to turn the TV up to 35 to hear everything going on in the game. I am not imagining it. I am not LOOKING for reasons to dislike the 360. The 360 is what many consider "loud" whether one happens to notice it or not.
And yet I still love my 360 despite that fact.
As far as I'm concerned bashing is only bashing when you state negative opinion as fact. Negative facts are still facts and have a necessary place if one is to have any semblence of being fair or balanced in one's views.

Is that 360 bashing? That is just a quote from a non-biased mag about something that was debated with me on the show.BreakmanX wrote:I always get flack on the show when I say Gamespot and IGN say it is silent but Engadget recently said it as well. They are usually pretty reliable about this sort of thing. They also say that it is cool to the touch.

In a side by side test with the Xbox 360, the console is comparably virtually silent, and the Blu-ray drive is significantly quieter than the 360's DVD drive."
At any rate, polical correctness never really sat with us anyway. The 360 fan is loud, and it irritates me so I express that. Like I said, it is a sign of further engineering shortcomings which is definitely more of the reason I talk about it. If a car shot out sparks, it would be annoying but you would get used to it. Most people would think there are more problems though. The simple fact that so many of them have failed, and the excessive noise all kind of add up and point in a direction of a poorly made system.
In a climate in America that gets angry and distraught when you hurt someone feelings, I think it is more important than ever that we all say what we mean especially when it come to facts. The FACT that the fan is really noisy and the FACT that many have failed leads me to a hypothesis that the engineering is flawed. I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings by this, but if it does then that is too bad. I say this simply because of the PMs I get saying I am biased against the 360.
I think it is important to talk about these flaws in a public manor so more people know what they are getting into. There's a lot of flawed common knowledge with the Ps3, and that type of thing really irritates me. The idea that everyone had that the games would be more than 60 for example. Sony came out and said they wouldn't, and then all the retailers listed their prices for the next year and they were ALL 59.99. Stopping the popular but incorrect public assumption is really a big part of what we do.
All said and done, I've had a lot of fun with my 360. Marvel Ultimate Alliance is the best comic book game ever, and looks great on the 360. But, if the game is better on Ps3 then I will prolly sell the 360 version and get the ps3 version because the third party games I have seen (2k series,) the developers have said the ps3 version is better. Especially since I'll be able to play it with Shadow since he is getting a ps3.
I don't have any leanings towards companies. Anyone who has known me for a long time will know that I've never really had great feelings about Sony. The ps2 and psp have been made fun of more than any two things on the show. So much in fact that Sony fans have complained to me. The fact is that from everything I've seen and played the ps3 is a well made system with a lot of potential. That's all there is to it. I also understand that there is a strong undercurrent against the Ps3 in the gaming culture, and that is fine too. I just want to remain in the middle.

All the logic of your race is completely wrong. You cut down trees and build tables to eat off of, when you have perfectly good tummys to eat off of.
Besides, no matter if you have a 360, PS3, whatever, you still should have a kick ass mega-amplified home theater system to drown out the operating noise of any console.
Duh...

If I got a 360 made by Sony, the power brick would probably explode. Anyway, don't pull that bullshit with me, the 360 isn't NEARLY as loud as you're trying to make it. NO ONE I've ever talked to in person has ever even mentioned the fan's noise! Why? They don't notice it! No one at Wal-mart, Target, Gamestop, or EB Games who played the console noticed any noises made by the fan. None of my friends noticed. No one at SVHS during the live demonstration of the 360 noticed it either, and there were A LOT of quiet moments during that presentation since there was a demo of F.E.A.R. being played.Mecha wrote:I'm honestly not trying to hear it. Now, save the store demos, all the 360 units I've been around were all made after the January 1st deadline set by Microsoft for the free repairs on the defective units (save the 1 at the presentation, which was sent in for repairs like a month before the presentation was given and returned a week later with absolutely no problems at all).

It's been a whole fucking year and I can't believe that this whole noise issue is coming up again. We talked about this last year around launch time. I didn't care then, I don't care now. Not to mention that no one knows how "perfect" the ps3 is going to be anyway. As Jayt said earlier, the graphics are going to be truly similar. There's no way there's going to be enough of graphical difference in games to justify the price tag. If you want to have a justification, then go out and get a tv that supports 1080p HD resolution. The main reason i am going to get a ps3 is for the blu-ray player, not to play games that I can play on the 360. That's how much I don't care about the noise. Not to mention the fact that I HATE playstation controllers, even with the stupid tilt axis shit.
It's been a full year, the 360 made noise, it still does, it still is an awesome gaming console so let's put the noise issue to rest. If you still don't like the games for the 360, then don't play it. If you like the games on the 360 but don't like fan noise, get used to it and leave it alone. Try to find the GOOD in each system, cause they all have good traits. Let's try like hell not to find little shit to pick at when we are looking at a beautiful next-gen game like Gears of War.
Let's move on, it's gone on long enough.
