I still never heard the fan...Atticus wrote:I knew about the noise issue before I got mine and I got it on launch day. But what I meant was that Mecha waited a while to get his, and by the time he got his, everyone was saying it was loud. I just figured that everyone short of President Bush knew the thing had fan noise.
Ps3 Silence again reported

Let's see if Sony still has those DREs it's so infamous for...(still haven't ever heard the fan on the 360, no matter how much i've played it or watched 1 of my friends play it though...)
Btw, 1 big note about the PS3. You better be DAMN careful how you set it. If you block any part of that big ass fan, that's a very easy way for the systemm to overheat, and I'm not just referring to the PS3. The problem with the PS3 is that it needs a big ass fan, meaning you shouldn't block any part of the fan at all (well, any part is a big vague, there's certain zones where the fan isn't located)

Still not entirely sure 2% is accurate... let me put it this way: did anyone not have a NES that had that awful "blinking problem", that would cause games to not be able to load unless you had some godly placement skills and cleaned it with a proper cleaning kit every other day? Unless that 2% includes all accessories or games shipped, it sounds way too low.BreakmanX wrote:That is factored in to my percentage. Game Over: Press Start to Continue was the book I used for reference. It covers Nintendo's legal battles and whatnot.
NESes sold - ~60 million.
GB/C/A line - ~170 mil
SNES - ~50 mil
N64 - ~30 mil
GCN - ~25 mil
DS - ~ 26 mil
60/361 = ~17%
Rough calculations, but you get the idea. Game over was also written 2 years before GCN was released, so that percentage would be even higher.
Also, anyone who wants to see how hot components of 360 can get...

Vamp, all I can tell you is that in the book it states that Nintendo had a 2% product failure rate. I'm sure this means EVERYTHING they released. This stat was stated after the GCN had only been out a few months.Vamp wrote:And DS sold 26.82 million not 26 million. I'm just doing easy math because I'm lazy. I'm only trying to make the point that comparitively it's much higher then 2%.
As for the NES, I still have mine from the first batch and it still works with no problem.
I'll take some video when the Ps3 comes out, and we'll compare the noise. And don't worry, if things about the ps3 bother me, I'll come right out and say it. I have absolutely no problem with that.
I can't say I've ever directed ire towards the PS3, but I have directed disinterest, based on reasons like the price tag and lack of compelling exclusive titles. It's a product that I'm not interested in at this point.Verence wrote:There is greater than average ire directed toward the PS3 for some reason. Not nearly as many people are trying to disparage the Wii or 360, even though the PS3 hasn't come out yet and they therefore cannot make a sound judgement seeing as how they haven't even played it.
I can't figure out why.
If that counts as ire, then color me guilty.

as with Richie, I'm simply not interested in the PS3.
There is, quite frankly, nothing that separates it from the other graphical powerhouse(360) so why should i put down ANOTHER $500 on the same system(same games, few exclusives).
The Wii, Nintendo in general, has decided to refine gameplay instead of graphical firepower. I am very eager to try on this new gameplay.
